You probably came to this post to read a lighthearted, fun article about rainbow looks. And while it is just that (not to disappoint you), it’s impossible not to address current events and how they tie into Pride month. Today is Juneteenth, an important holiday celebrating the liberation of slaves in the United States, with celebrations dating as far back as 1865. We’ve been doing a lot of reflecting and listening during this historic time in our lives, and realized something: Just as the LGBT rights movement once coincided with the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and ’60s, there is a parallel between the Black Lives Matter movement and LGBTQIA+ movements of today. We’re still fighting for equality and acceptance for all, but this time we want to create lasting changes in the world so that future generations don’t have to advocate for their human rights.
June marks Pride month, which isn’t only about wearing rainbows and parades (though you know we love those!); this special month commemorates the Stonewall riots of June 28, 1969, which happened in New York City. During the riots, marginalized, disenfranchised people fought back when police became violent. And one of the most notable figures of this movement was Marsha P. Johnson, a black trans woman. Johnson was an AIDS activist, founding member of the Gay Liberation Front and an overall inspiration to drag queens everywhere. To celebrate and show our support, we wanted to highlight some of the amazing artistry Editour’s influencers have created for Pride month, which is about so much more than showing off your rainbow colors. We hope you and your family are staying well and safe during this unprecedented time of change and unrest, and we remain hopeful for a brighter future!
Bianca Linares, otherwise known as @biancalovesmakeup91, has created several amazing looks rainbow bright makeup looks this month. And we’re living for these closeup shots. No Pride month would be complete without the perfect Pride hair! Antonio Estrada has created several rainbow looks, including this incredible ponytail! Antonio used a Glam Seamless 26′ pony, Sexy Hair Artistry Pro Avant-Guard Hairspray and rainbow zip ties! Watch this tutorial to get the look:
He also customized an amazing set of rainbow rings to create a new twist on one of his signature styles. You can also view the full tutorial on his page. Antonio is on the Visionary Team for SexyHair and is a Salon Centric Ambassador (you can find many of the pro products he uses at your local Salon Centric). Though many of his styles seem impossible to recreate because he is so talented, he does an amazing job of showing you the step-by-step process in a way that’s easy to understand and follow along with. If you’re not following him already, you’re missing out on some seriously inspirational ‘dos.
This rainbow updo by hairstylist extraordinaire and educator Leysa Carillo is unreal! From the multiple pastel hues to the braiding in the back, she’s showing off some serious skill with this look. Though you might be difficult to recreate at home, you create pretty pastel hues using Punky Colour’s Pastel FX Shade Adjustor for a look inspired by this one.
Leysa is an expert on curly hair, and knows how to add splashes of color that don’t damage the integrity of natural curls. We love her colorful creations all year round. Leysa is a talented educator, BTC One Shot winner and a Modern Salon top influencer—and someone you should be following for endless hair tips and inspo.
Last, but certainly not least, is this throwback look from special effects makeup artist, body painter and color queen LuveKat. Kat creates over-the-top, insanely intricate looks all year round, and her IGTV tutorials are reason enough to give her a follow. She has recreated the looks of some of the most iconic characters on the big screen and puts her own unique twist on her illusionist makeup. For this rainbow skull, she used White Lite Clown Cream Makeup by Ben Nye for the base, Makeup A Murder neon pigments, Huda Beauty’s foundation in Amaretto on her skin and Dermablend’s Banana Illuminating Powder. Take a cue from LuveKat and try your own special effects look for fun at home!
